THE brave act of a woman who refused to let go of her dog even as both were swept away by raging floodwaters has touched the hearts of Internet users, Sin Chew Daily reported.
In a viral video, the woman and her border collie are seen struggling against fast-moving currents as they try to reach safety during flooding in Guangxi, China.
Just as they edge towards a wall, the dog is swept away by the rushing water but the woman grabs the animal by its collar and pulls it back towards her, only for it to be swept away again.
After several attempts to drag the dog back to safety, she manages to grab a bamboo pole extended by passers-by, who then pull both her and the dog to safety.
The flooding was triggered by Typhoon Maysak, which wreaked havoc across southern Guangxi, forcing more than 100,000 people to evacuate.
> The daily also reported about an elderly woman taking her giant tortoise for a walk in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
According to local reports, the tortoise is popular among local residents, who often see it accompanying its owner on walks.
The woman said she has kept the tortoise since 2022, when it was only four years old and weighed about 1kg.
It now weighs 40kg, she noted.
