SHAH ALAM: Hatred towards supposed bullies is believed to be the main motive behind the stabbing at a school in Banting.
However, police have yet to uncover evidence of bullying.
Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Shazeli Kahar said all those named in a note recovered from the 15-year-old suspect had been interviewed.
“Our preliminary findings showed the reasoning behind the attack was the suspect’s feelings of hatred towards several individuals whom she claimed to have bullied her.
“However, based on statements recorded, there was no indication that bullying had occurred. Having said that, please give room to the authorities to conduct a full investigation,” he said.
Comm Shazeli confirmed that the suspect had jumped off the school building last year.
“I do not deny the fact. A police report on the matter was made on the incident late last year,” he said.
Comm Shazeli added that the suspect had been absent from classes for the last eight months and was home-schooled in that time frame due to an “illness”.
Investigations showed that the suspect was currently suffering from mental health issues, including depression. She was also confirmed to be autistic and a Kad OKU (disability card) holder.
It is also known that she had used an e-hailing service to go to school on the day of the incident and the weapon used was purchased online.
Investigations are also focused on her social media usage, he added.
“With regard to the use of social media, we believe it may have influenced the suspect’s mindset and behaviour. However, I cannot specify which social media platform was involved as the matter is still under police investigation.
“What we can say is that efforts are still being carried out to ensure those underage do not have access to social media, as the government has stated under the new law.
“Perhaps enforcement requires some time, and it was during this period that the suspect was able to obtain the weapon used online,” he said, adding the police have an upcoming scheduled meeting with the state Education Department.
Regarding the stabbing victim, Comm Shazeli said she was in stable condition and had been interviewed by the police.
On Monday, the suspect was arrested following the stabbing of a fellow student at a secondary school in Banting.
Before the incident, the suspect was reportedly seen entering the school compound through the main entrance wearing a black T-shirt and red checkered trousers.
Several videos of the incident have since surfaced on social media, showing a teenage girl dressed in black walking around the school compound while holding a knife as students ran away.
The suspect will be charged today.
