PUTRAJAYA: Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has arrived for his official two-day visit to Malaysia on Thursday (July 9).
Anutin arrived at about 11.07am Thursday at the Bunga Raya complex in KL International Airport.
He was welcomed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and accorded an official welcoming ceremony.
This marks Anutin’s first official visit to Malaysia following his reappointment as Prime Minister in March this year.
Both Anwar and Anutin are scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting, which is expected to review the progress of Malaysia-Thailand bilateral relations and discuss ways to further strengthen cooperation across a broad range of areas.
This includes trade and investment, border connectivity, security, agriculture, tourism, education and people-to-people exchanges.
They are further expected to see the exchanging of views on regional and international developments of mutual interest particularly under the Asean framework and other regional mechanisms.
The two Prime Ministers will also witness the signing and exchange of memorandum of understanding on agricultural cooperation.
On Friday (July 10), both Prime Ministers are scheduled to officiate the opening of a road linking the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) in Bukit Kayu Hitam, Malaysia and the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex in Sadao, Thailand.
Last year, Thailand was Malaysia’s 6th largest trading partner globally and the second largest among Asean member states with total trade amounting to RM118.57 bil (USD27.73 bil).
Between January to March this year, bilateral trade between both countries reached RM31.33 bil (USD7.9 bil) as compared to RM27.35 bil (USD6.25 bil) during the corresponding period last year.
