Dr Wee lodges report with MCMC over fake news

JOHOR BARU: MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic) has filed a report seeking a “thorough and transparent investigation” into a viral social media post which he says is defaming and spreading fake news about MCA.

He said he has lodged a report with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) after a social media post surfaced claiming that MCA does not want Barisan to work with PAS for Malay Muslims.

“When did I ever say such a thing? Go ahead and publish the full recording if I really made those remarks.

“By all means, campaign and engage in politics but do not stoop so low as to resort to slander and falsehoods,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday.

Dr Wee added that while the party upholds freedom of speech and freedom of the media, it does not condone defamation and spreading of fake news.

“Besides hoping for a thorough and transparent investigation, I hope the defamatory content will be removed and its circulation stopped immediately,” he said.
