Johor polls: Muda raises concerns over alleged election offences, including Nga's project announcement

JOHOR BARU: Muda has raised concerns over several alleged election offences in the Johor election, including Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming's announcement of repair projects worth over RM216.44mil.

Its president Amira Aisya Abd Aziz said the fight against dirty politics and abuse of power should not just be championed when one is in the Opposition.

"The agenda of cleaning up elections from dirty politics and abuse of power should not merely be a political slogan when one is in the Opposition.

"It must continue once a party has been given the trust to govern.

"The people have the right to choose political parties that respect the law throughout the election period," she said in a statement on Friday (July 3).

She added other instances, including Tabung Ekonomi Kumpulan Usaha Niaga (Tekun Nasional) deputy chairman Sany Hamzan's use of the government agency's machinery during a visit to Maharani and Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki attending a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Mara programme with a Barisan Nasional candidate.

She said Bersih had also raised concerns over the use of government assets during the state election.

"This includes the broadcast of a Pakatan Harapan public ceramah on Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), the distribution of Bakul Kasih Johor, the distribution of 3,000 RM50 Madani Southern Shuttle Commuter cards to Johoreans, and a Youth and Sports Ministry programme offering free motorcycle engine oil changes," she said.

Meanwhile, Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) has taken a step further by lodging two police reports against Nga over the announcement made on June 25, two days before nomination day for the election.

Its chairman Dr Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj said the ruling government should not be announcing projects from the day the dissolution of the state assembly was announced until election day.

"They have been the government for the past four years. Why do we need to announce it now, and in Johor?

"It undermines the purpose of an election.

"People should be chosen based on their capacity to bring good ideas and good policies into the state assembly, not on how many goodies they can give during the election period," he said.

He said the two reports were filed by him and the party's Skudai candidate, Amir Syafiq Ameer Soekre, on Thursday (July 2).
