Teenager killed in motorcycle-lorry collision in Muar


MUAR: A teenager died on the spot after his motorcycle hit the rear right tail light of a lorry on Wednesday (July 1).

Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said the incident took place at KM135 of the North-South Expressway (Northbound) at 5.40pm.

“The lorry had veered into the emergency lane causing the motorcycle to collide with its rear tail light,’’ he said in a statement.

ACP Raiz Mukhliz said as a result of the accident, the 19-year-old victim, a male student, suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

He said the 19-year-old male pillion rider, also a student, sustained minor injuries to his hands and was taken to Sultanah Aminah Specialist Hospital here for treatment.

“The 51-year-old male lorry driver escaped unhurt and tested negative for alcohol and urine tests,’’ added Comm Raiz Mukhliz.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
