Pahang cops seize over RM700,000 worth of drugs in Bentong

KUANTAN: Police have seized various types of drugs worth over RM728,000 at a hotel in Genting Permai, Bentong.

Acting Pahang police chief Datuk Azry Akmar Ayob said two suspects, a 37-year-old local man and a 35-year-old foreign woman, were arrested by a police team at the hotel's parking area at about 5pm on Monday (June 29).

He said various types of drugs, including an 2.9kg of ketamine, 1.01kg of cocaine, 671g of MDMA and 538g of methamphetamine were found after searching a hotel room and a car.

"The couple is believed to have acted as couriers for the drugs from the Klang Valley for distribution in the east coast," he said at a press conference at the Pahang police headquarters here on Wednesday (July 1).

He said neither suspect had criminal records and both tested positive for methamphetamine.

The couple have been remanded for seven days until July 6 for investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Meanwhile, Azry Akmar said 333 individuals aged from 19 to 65 were arrested for various drug-related offences during Ops Hawk, which was carried out from June 28-30.

He said various assets acquired through drug trafficking activities, including cash and vehicles worth nearly RM80,000 were also seized. – Bernama
