DENGKIL: The expectation of multi-cornered clashes in the Johor state election is normal in the democratic practice in Malaysia, says the Prime Minister.
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also the Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman, reminded all parties to keep their campaigns civil throughout the election.
"Three to six (corner) fights are normal in democratic practice. Just let the campaign be civil, maintain decorum and stay grounded," he told reporters after performing Friday prayers at Jameatus Solehah Mosque here on Friday (June 26).
Anwar also reminded all PH component parties to show good conduct when campaigning in the Johor polls this time.
The nomination process for the Johor polls is scheduled to take place from 9 to 10am on Saturday (June 27) at the 56 designated nomination centres (PPCs), before the official announcement of candidates eligible to contest is made by the returning officers.
Meanwhile, Anwar urged each PH component party to take the approach of being humble to the community and not to display arrogance.
"Don't show arrogance, don't reject this or that person, work together with all. Take a modest attitude, try to serve, meet as many of our community as possible," he said.
The Election Commission has set June 27 as nomination day for the Johor polls, July 7 as the early voting day, and July 11 as the voting day.
It was reported that a total of 593 nomination forms for the Johor polls have been sold so far, but only 133 prospective candidates have confirmed their participation by paying a deposit.
Election Commission (EC) chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun said the number was, however, expected to continue to increase since prospective candidates still have time until the nomination process begins tomorrow morning to complete the matter. – Bernama
