IPOH: The case of the woman who was charged for assaulting the Perak Ruler during the state-level National Day celebrations in 2025 will continue to be heard.
At the Lower Court yesterday, magistrate Norizan Riduan set July 1 for mention and to record a plea from Nurhaswani Afni Mohamad Zorki.
Nurhaswani Afni had in February this year filed the representation to the Attorney General’s Chambers to drop the charge under Section 352 of the Penal Code for using criminal force.
She was charged in September last year and was ordered to be observed at Hospital Bahagia in Ulu Kinta for a month.
In October, she pleaded guilty, but it was rejected by the court after the hospital’s medical reports revealed that she was suffering from schizophrenia and was not of sound mind during the incident.
During the event, Nurhaswani Afni had rushed towards Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah on stage in front of the Ipoh City Hall while the state anthem was being played.
Security personnel intercepted her before she could reach the Perak Ruler.
If found guilty, she could face three months in jail, a fine of up to RM1,000 or both.
