JOHOR BARU: A man was killed in a six-vehicle crash at KM31.9 southbound on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) just after the Kulai Rest and Relaxation area (RNR) Tuesday (June 23) morning.
Kulai Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Senior Fire Officer II Khairil Mohd Adzami said they received a distress call at 9.02am and arrived at the location, at KM31.9 of the expressway heading towards Johor Baru, at 10.03am to find a crash involving six vehicles, with some of them on fire.
"The vehicles involved in the crash were a container lorry, a 40-foot trailer carrying metal fencing, a pick-up truck, a van, a 10-tonne lorry carrying mosaic and a one-tonne bonded lorry.
"The driver of the trailer, a man in his 30s, was found dead at the scene and was pronounced dead by Health Ministry officers before his body was handed to the police for further action.
"The pick-up driver, 29, two men, 32 and 29, in the van and the driver of the one-tonne bonded truck, a 34-year-old man, were reported to be safe and uninjured, but information about the drivers of the container lorry and the 10-tonne lorry could not be obtained as they were not at the location during the operation," he said in a statement Tuesday.
The pick-up and the van suffered 90% damage, while the trailer suffered 80% damage, the 10-tonne lorry and the one-tonne bonded lorry both suffered 60% damage as a result of the fire, he added.
