‘Set aside differences once line-up finalised’

JOHOR BARU: Any disagreement over candidate selection within Pakatan Harapan must be set aside once the final line-up is announced tomorrow, says Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu.

The Amanah president said all component parties and members must accept the decisions made and work together to secure victory in the Johor election.

“Since only one candidate can be chosen for each seat, there will naturally be those who are dissatisfied. The same applies among parties within Pakatan. Some may feel their party deserves to contest a particular seat, while others may have different views.

“But once the decision is made and announced on June 22, we in Pakatan must move forward as one team and put our differences aside,” he said at the launch of Amanah’s election machinery for the Johor election yesterday.

Mohamad also urged members of Amanah, DAP and PKR to support all Pakatan candidates, regardless of party affiliation.

“When an Amanah candidate is fielded, DAP and PKR members must work to ensure that candidate wins.

“Likewise, when a DAP or PKR candidate is fielded, Amanah members must give their full support to secure victory,” he said.

Meanwhile, Johor Amanah chairman Aminolhuda Hassan said most of the party’s proposed candidates are fresh faces.

“Of the 19 candidates we submitted, only six have contested in elections before. The rest are newcomers, and about half of them are young candidates,” he told reporters after the event.

He added that Amanah would also field two women candidates in the state election.

Asked about the seats Amanah would contest, Aminolhuda said they were located across various parts of Johor.

The dissolution of the Johor state assembly was announced by Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi on June 1 after receiving the consent of Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.

The Election Commission has set July 11 as polling day, with nomination day on June 27 and early voting on July 7.
