JOHOR BARU: Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi (pic) is willing to attend the launch of the KTM Komuter service on Tuesday.
The Johor caretaker Mentri Besar said he would clear his schedule for the event but is still waiting for an official invitation from the Transport Ministry.
He said he was touched and relieved that the Johor state government and he had finally received what he described as a sincere invitation from Transport Minister Anthony Loke to witness the implementation of the KTM Komuter project.
“I have no issue attending and will make time in my schedule for the occasion,” he said in a statement yesterday.
He added that the implementation of the project was for the benefit and convenience of Bangsa Johor, not political cooperation.
However, he said an official invitation had yet to reach him.
“As of today, my office informed that I have yet to receive any official invitation letter or programme details.
“I was only informed by the media that the invitation was extended during the Pakatan Harapan Negeri Sembilan election machinery launch programme last night.
“Nevertheless, I am still touched by the ‘sincerity’ of this invitation,” he said.
Onn Hafiz also highlighted several previous ministry programmes which he claimed did not involve the Johor government, including visits to the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine complex, announcements related to the Vehicle Entry Permit system and a visit to the Segamat Electric Train Service project.
He also alleged that the Transport Minister’s working visit to the Rapid Transit System Link site in April did not involve the Johor government, despite several Johor DAP leaders attending the programme.
On the KTM Komuter, Onn Hafiz said the Johor government had provided various forms of support to ensure the successful implementation of the project.
He said the state government had allocated RM700,000 for train beautification and wrapping works, as well as helping provide feeder bus services at stations through the Johor Public Transport Corporation.
“The state government also coordinated Bas Muafakat Johor routes and sponsored passenger seats worth about RM9,000 for the comfort of commuters.
“This sharing is not intended to claim credit, but merely to inform the public that the Johor government has also contributed towards the success of this Federal Government initiative,” he said.
He stressed that development projects do not belong to any political party but are the responsibility of all parties entrusted with public office and should be implemented professionally for the benefit of the people.
On Friday, Loke, who is also DAP secretary-general, invited Onn Hafiz to join him on a KTM Komuter ride during a Transport Ministry programme in Johor on Tuesday.
