Traverse, compressed hiking activities temporarily barred in Selangor forest reserves

SHAH ALAM: Applications for selected hiking activities in all permanent forest reserves in Selangor have been temporarily suspended due to safety concerns.

In a public notice posted on its official Facebook page on Friday (June 12), the Selangor Forestry Department announced the suspension involves traverse hiking and compressed hiking activities. Compressed hiking involves condensing a longer trek (usually multi-day) into a much shorter timeframe.

The department warned that violating the directive may constitute an offence under Section 47 of the National Forestry Act 1984, which prohibits unauthorised entry into closed forests.

"Offenders may face a fine of up to RM30,000, imprisonment of up to five years, or both."
