Jamal Yunos' movable assets to be auctioned on June 22

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 14 movable properties seized from the residence of Sungai Besar Umno chief Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos will be auctioned on June 22 after he failed to pay an outstanding judgment amounting to RM66,061.85 to Seputeh MP Teresa Kok, in a defamation suit case.

Lawyer Datuk SN Nair, who represented Kok, said the High Court dismissed the interpleader claim application submitted by Jamal's son, Muhammad Amin Daniel, who claimed that the seized items belonged to him.

"Muhammad Amin's application was dismissed with costs of RM8,000. However, another individual named Mohd Razali Kamin has filed a notice of withdrawal of the interpleader claim and he was ordered to pay costs of RM2,000.

"Therefore, there is no longer any obstacle to the proceedings for the execution of the judgment. The auction of the seized goods is set for June 22, 2026 at 10am," he said when contacted after the proceedings before senior assistant registrar Qasiratul Jannah Usmani Othman which took place via video conference on Friday (June 12).

On Jan 28, the senior assistant registrar together with bailiffs, lawyers and police officers went to Jamal's residence in Ampang Jaya, Selangor, to execute the writ of seizure and sale against the 14 movable properties in question.

The execution of the writ of seizure and sale by the court bailiff was to recover the outstanding judgment amount, which is the cost that should have been paid to Kok in the suit case, but has not yet been paid.

On July 30, 2024, the Federal Court dismissed Jamal's application for leave to appeal against the High Court's decision ordering him to pay RM300,000 in damages to Kok. Jamal paid the damages.

On July 26 2022, Judge Datuk Mohd Arief Emran Arifin ordered Jamal to pay damages of RM300,000 and costs of RM50,000 to Kok.

Kok filed the suit on April 6, 2017, claiming that Jamal had issued defamatory statements against her regarding the Yawas funds during a press conference on March 8 of the same year.

Through the statement of claim, Kok claimed that the defamatory statements were spread through print and electronic media, including through Jamal's Facebook account, which gave the impression that she had misused state government funds for personal gain and was an unethical person. – Bernama
