Police probe cable theft after video shows loot loaded into luxury car

KUALA LUMPUR: A video of stolen cables worth around RM20,000 being stuffed inside a luxury car prompted a police investigation.

Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Hoo Chang Hook, in a statement on Tuesday (June 6), said investigations found that the incident occurred on June 8, 2026, at around 4.30am along Jalan Dato Sulaiman in Taman Tun Dr Ismail.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that a witness, who was carrying out topographical work at the time, noticed five unidentified men pulling out cables belonging to Telekom Malaysia (TM) from a utility manhole.

“The witness confronted the group, after which they fled the scene using two white cars and one black car," he said.

He added that CCTV footage of the incident had been obtained and that efforts to track down the suspects were underway.

TM representatives also confirmed that the stolen cables were estimated to be worth around RM20,000.

“Members of the public with any information related to the incident are urged to come forward and assist in the investigation by contacting any nearby police station or the Brickfields police district headquarters," he said.
