Two killed after motorcycle collides with lorry in Iskandar Puteri


JOHOR BARU: A married couple were killed after their motorcycle hit a lorry at the Second Link here.

Iskandar Puteri Deputy OCPD Supt Saifullah Jaya @ Yahaya said the incident took place at KM-0.6 of the Second Link (northbound) at around 9.30pm on Friday (June 5).

"The accident is believed to have happened when the motorcycle crashed into the back of a lorry that had stopped in the emergency lane due to a breakdown.

"The collision caused the motorcyclist and his pillion passenger, who are 53 and 54 years old, to sustain serious injuries.

"They were later pronounced dead at the scene and their bodies were sent to Sultanah Aminah Hospital for a post-mortem," he said in a statement.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Supt Saifullah also urged those who witnessed the incident to come forward and contact the Iskandar Puteri Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division at 07-5101322 to assist in the investigation.

Earlier, a 13-second viral video showing the two victims lying motionless on the road made the rounds on social media.
