MUAR: Drugs and illicit vape cartridges worth RM57.15mil have been seized by the marine police in a major operation here.
Marine Police Region II commander Asst Comm Noor Azman Jamal said the raid was carried out at Parit Amat Laut at about 12.30am on Friday by personnel from the Intelligence Unit and the Muar district police narcotics crime investigation division.
“Upon arriving at the location, the team spotted a boat and several vehicles parked nearby, with a number of individuals seen loading goods onto the boat,” he said in a statement yesterday.
ACP Noor Azman said personnel immediately moved in and detained two local suspects – a 43-year-old woman and a 63-year-old man – believed to be acting as transporters for the syndicate.
A search uncovered 549kg of syabu, 191,268 ecstasy pills and 4,000 illicit vape cartridges believed to be destined for Indonesia.
Police also seized a fibre boat, two engine boats and seven cars.
“We are still tracking down other syndicate members who are believed to be at large,” ACP Noor Azman said, adding that the two suspects have been remanded until June 11.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, as well as Section 130V(1) of the Penal Code.
ACP Noor Azman said the suspects and all seized items were taken to the Muar district police headquarters for further investigation.
