Dr Wee: Stability is key to people’s well-being

JOHOR BARU: Political stability, effective governance and a clear development agenda are key to delivering tangible benefits to the rakyat, says MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic).

In welcoming the dissolution of the Johor state assembly, he said the Johor Barisan Nasional government had shown its achievements over the past term.

Among others, he cited record investments, job creation, welfare assistance programmes and infrastructure development as evidence of the state’s progress.

Johor, he said, has continued to move forward with confidence under a stable administration focussed on economic growth and improving the well-being of its people.

He said the state’s achievements demonstrated the importance of maintaining political stability and continuity in governance.

In a Facebook post, Dr Wee who is also Johor MCA chairman, said the dissolution of the Johor assembly has paved the way for the people to decide on a fresh mandate for the state government.

He said the upcoming state polls would mark another important chapter in Johor’s democratic journey.

“I am confident that the people of Johor will make their choice wisely based on performance, vision and commitment to the state’s future,” he said.

As political parties gear up for the state election, Dr Wee urged all parties and supporters to uphold the spirit of democracy throughout the campaign period.

He also called for mutual respect and unity among Johoreans, regardless of political differences.

“Let us uphold the spirit of democracy, mutual respect and unity, and work together towards a more prosperous and progressive Johor,” he said.

Earlier yesterday, Dr Wee posted a greeting to Barisan on its 52nd anniversary, calling it the only political coalition with a proven track record in governing the country.

He said the coalition has evolved from the Alliance Party to Barisan Nasional with continued efforts in building a progressive nation, safeguarding unity and nurturing harmony among all communities under its current leadership.

“In the blink of an eye, it has been 52 years since Barisan Nasional was founded. Despite facing many challenges along the way, its banner continues to fly proudly because it remains the only coalition with a proven track record in governing the country with sincerity and experience.”

“Happy 52nd anniversary Barisan Nasional!” he wrote on Facebook.

Formed during the leadership of Malaysia’s second prime minister Tun Abdul Razak, Barisan succeeded the Alliance Party for a broader, multi-ethnic coalition designed to ensure political stability following the 1969 riots.
