Myanmar man killed, wife injured in Simpang Ampat attack


BUKIT MERTAJAM: A Myanmar man was killed while his wife was injured after they were allegedly attacked by a fellow countryman in Taman Belibis, Simpang Ampat, on Sunday (May 31).

Penang police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail said a 38-year-old Myanmar man was arrested following the incident to assist in investigations.

In the attack, the 31-year-old male victim died at the scene, while a 26-year-old woman, believed to be his wife and also a Myanmar national, sustained injuries and was taken to Hospital Seberang Jaya for treatment, he said.

“The victim died as a result of the incident, while the injured woman was sent to Hospital Seberang Jaya for further medical treatment," he said on Monday (June 1).

Azizee said police are still investigating the motive behind the attack and are conducting further inquiries, including recording statements from relevant individuals.

He added that the victim's body has been sent to the hospital for post-mortem.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. – Bernama
