PETALING JAYA: The decision to withdraw the movie Konspirasi from cinemas was made by the film’s producer, says the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas).
Finas said that the film had been withdrawn from all cinemas from May 28 and that it had received word on the matter today from both the Malaysian Association of Film Exhibitors (Mafe) as well as the film’s distributor Media Prima Berhad.
"Based on an email from the producer that was shared with Finas, the film’s producer, Elepfilm Entertainment Sdn Bhd, requested that screenings of Konspirasi be terminated starting on that date.
"Finas’ checks with the film distributor and cinema exhibitors found that the withdrawal was made at the producer’s own request and did not involve any directive from any authority,” it said in a statement on Friday (May 29).
It added that the movie had already received approval from the Film Censorship Board (LPF) and that the film began screening on May 21 nationwide.
"In this regard, Finas contacted the producer to obtain an explanation and is currently awaiting further clarification from the producer.
"Finas will continue to gather more information from the relevant parties and will provide updates from time to time,” it said.
