KOTA BARU: A suspected "tekong darat" (ground handler) and two Bangladesh nationals were seriously injured after their car skidded while fleeing police in Jeli on Thursday (May 28).
The incident occurred at around 7.30am near Jalan Bukit Cermin, Kampung Sungai Rual.
General Operations Force (GOF) Southeast Brigade commander Senior Asst Comm Ahmad Radzi Hussain said a team from the GOF 7th Battalion detected a suspicious red car on the East-West Highway.
He said the 21-year-old driver sped up after realising he was being followed before losing control and veering into a ditch.
“Inspection of the vehicle found nine individuals, including a local man believed to be the driver and eight Bangladeshi men aged between 20 and 40 years old,” he said.
Six Bangladeshi men sustained minor injuries, while the driver and two others were seriously hurt.
All were taken to Jeli Hospital for treatment.
Ahmad Radzi said 10 pills believed to be Yaba drugs were also found in the car.
He said the case is being investigated under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for the drugs found.
Investigations are also being carried out under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 and the Immigration Act 1959/63.
The foreign nationals involved are being investigated for entering and residing in Malaysia without a valid pass or permit.
