KOTA KINABALU: A section of the Sandakan-Lahad Datu main road at KM90 near the Sukau roundabout collapsed following heavy rain.
An alternative lane is in place but only allows light vehicles, making it impassable for heavy vehicles between the two Sabah east coast districts after the early morning incident yesterday.

Kinabatangan district police chief Supt Ravi Duraisamy said they were informed that the road collapse was due to the groundwater swell from incessant rains.
He said a sedan was involved in an accident at the site but no serious injuries were reported.
“The driver and passengers received treatment at Kinabatangan Hospital,” he said in a statement.
Supt Ravi said the contractor, JAD Reka Kaya, appointed under the Pan Borneo Highway project, has built a diversion lane to ease traffic flow.
However, heavy vehicles are still barred from using the route until further notice.
He also said that the Kinabatangan district Public Works Department has been alerted for follow-up action.
All road users are advised to exercise caution and drive responsibly when passing through the affected stretch to avoid further accidents.
