Shots fired at suspects attempting to ram policemen

KAJANG: Police fired several shots at three suspects in a vehicle when they tried to ram the officers who were detaining them in an operation at 9.30pm on Sunday (May 23).

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Naazron Abdul Yusof said the incident on Jalan Batu 15 1/4, Dusun Tua, involved a team from the Tampin district police headquarters.

He said the officers had discharged their firearms after they were allegedly threatened while attempting to detain three suspects travelling in a vehicle by the roadside.

“Police successfully detained a local man and two local women who were inside the vehicle,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

Checks revealed that the first suspect had a criminal record with six offences and three drug-related offences while the second suspect had four criminal and 11 narcotic-related offences.

The third suspect was also found to have a record for six criminal and two drug-related offences.

"Further inspection found that the vehicle was using a fake registration number.

"We also seized several mobile phones and vehicle remote control devices believed to be linked to cases being investigated by Tampin police," he said.

The case is being investigated under Sections 307 and 186 of the Penal Code for attempted murder and obstructing a public servant from carrying out official duties, he added.

"We urge those with information on criminal or suspicious activities to contact the MERS 999 hotline or the Kajang district police control centre at 03-89114243.
