Park shut longer due to more rat urine cases

SEREMBAN: The full closure of the Ulu Bendul Forest Eco Park in Kuala Pilah has been extended until June 23 for public safety and health control purposes following an increase in leptospirosis cases in the area.

Negri Sembilan Forestry Department director Mohd Yussainy Md Yusop said the extension would allow the management to carry out sanitation works, thorough cleaning and water quality monitoring to ensure visitor safety in the future.

“The Kuala Pilah health office (PKD) received an additional seven confirmed leptospirosis cases on May 18 involving individuals with a history of bathing in the area on May 10.

“This brings the total number of confirmed cases to 11.

“The closure period takes into account the incubation period from the onset date of the last symptomatic case, with the latest recorded on May 15,” he told Bernama yesterday.

Mohd Yussainy said that during the closure, the public is strictly prohibited from trespassing into the area and failure to comply with the directive may result in action under existing regulations.

The recreational park was previously closed until May 24.
