Court to decide on Zizie Izette’s graft case on July 20

KUALA LUMPUR: The Sessions Court has fixed July 20 to deliver its decision in the graft case involving former actress Datin Seri Zizie Izette Abdul Samad, who is accused of abetting her late husband, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.

Sessions Court judge Rosli Ahmad fixed the decision date during proceedings here on Monday.

Zizie is on trial on three counts of abetting Bung Moktar, who was then Felcra’s non-executive chairman, in accepting RM2.2mil and RM262,500 from unit trust agent Madhi Abdul Hamid and a further RM337,500 from Norhaili Ahmad Mokhtar, also a unit trust agent, as an inducement for Felcra’s approval to invest RM150mil in Public Mutual unit trusts.

Earlier, Zizie’s lead counsel Datuk Seri K. Kumaraendran submitted that the prosecution had failed to prove the element of abetment in Zizie’s three charges.

He said the prosecution ought to prove that Zizie had “substantially assisted” Bung in receiving the corrupt monies for himself, when Bung allegedly obtained approval from the then Finance Minister II for Felcra Bhd to invest RM150mil in Public Mutual Bhd’s unit trust products.

“All evidence before this honourable court indicates that the sum of RM2.8mil paid to the second accused (Zizie) was an introductory fee voluntarily given by the two unit trust agents.

“There is no evidence that said introductory fee constitutes a bribe,” Kumaraendran said.

Meanwhile, deputy public prosecutor Law Chin How submitted that the accused never disputed the RM2.8mil amount and agreed with the prosecution that she had accepted the money despite knowing the money was proceeds from Felcra’s investment in Public Mutual.

“The accused should have rejected the money, especially knowing that her late husband, Bung Moktar, was the non-executive chairman at the material time,” he said.

The prosecution also argued that the defence failed to explain that the monies received were not corrupt.

After oral submissions were completed, the court instructed the parties to file additional submissions before the decision date.

On March 5, the defence closed its case after calling two witnesses, including Bung Moktar.

Zizie allegedly committed the offences at Public Bank Taman Melawati Branch between 12.30pm and 5pm on June 12, 2015.

Bung Moktar was acquitted of the charges following his death on Dec 5, 2025.
