Pangkor boat tragedy: Body of 12th victim found


IPOH: Search and rescue personnel have found another victim from the boat that sank in waters near Pangkor Island on Monday (May 11).

A Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) spokesman said the victim, a woman, was found at about 3pm on Friday (May 15).

"Her body was found about 31.5 nautical miles (58.3km) from where the boat is believed to have capsized.

"The body arrived at the marine police base jetty at 2.35pm," he added.

On Monday, a boat with 37 undocumented Indonesian migrants capsized while on its way to Malaysia.

Authorities rescued 23 victims, who are currently being detained.

Earlier today, a male victim was found at 9.27am.

A total of 12 bodies have now been recovered, with two more yet to be found.
