KOTA BARU: A teenager was charged with the murder of a female college student whose body was found with 61 stab wounds about two weeks ago.
Muhammad Hazim Muhammad, 19, nodded after the charge was read out before Magistrate Rais Imran Hamid.
However, no plea was recorded as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
He is charged with the murder of Nurfisya Zulkifly, 19, at Jalan Pengkalan Piah, Ketereh, between 11.40pm on April 30 and 12.20am on May 1.
The charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code, carries the death penalty or imprisonment of up to 40 years and not fewer than 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction.
The court fixed July 2 for mention for the submission of documents, including the forensic report, Bernama reported.
On May 1, the victim’s body was discovered on a roadside near the Kampung Simah padi fields.
Police believed that she was killed elsewhere before her body was dumped in the area.
Following the incident, police detained four individuals aged between 19 and 66 to assist in investigations. Two senior citizens, including a woman, were released on police bail after being remanded for three days.
In an unrelated case in Kuala Lumpur yesterday, Bernama reported that two former clinic workers claimed trial to a charge of causing the death of a woman while allegedly performing an abortion procedure two years ago.
Philomena Mathias, 83, and Rusbur Kaur Partab Singh, 73, were jointly charged with causing the death of a 45-year-old woman through an act allegedly carried out with the intention of causing a miscarriage.
The two women were charged with committing the offence at a clinic along Jalan Changkat Bukit Bintang at about 5.30pm on Oct 22, 2024.
The charge, framed under Section 314 of the Penal Code, provides a maximum jail sentence of 10 years and a fine, if convicted.
Magistrate Illi Marisqa Khalizan allowed bail of RM3,000 each with one surety and fixed June 29 for mention of the case.
