Senior citizen killed in Manjung robbery, suspect arrested the same day


IPOH: A senior citizen has been killed in a robbery at his house on Jalan Melayu in Ayer Tawar, Manjung.

The victim, 84, died while receiving treatment at Hospital Seri Manjung after the 5.30am Thursday (May 7) incident, Manjung OCPD Asst Comm Hasbullah Abd Rahman said.

"The victim and his wife were attacked by an unknown individual who used a hard object as a weapon. The couple suffered serious injuries.

"The suspect then fled the house with two mobile phones and some money," he said in a statement on Friday (May 8).

"The victim was rushed to the hospital by a neighbour, who heard a commotion, but he died while being treated."

ACP Hasbullah said a 27-year-old man was arrested at 7.45pm the same day and brought back to the district police station for further investigation.

"Items allegedly stolen from the victims were also recovered during the arrest.

"The case will be investigated under Sections 302 and 394 of the Penal Code for murder and voluntarily causing hurt during a robbery," he said, adding that the suspect would be remanded for seven days until May 15.
