Man under investigation for burying unborn child

ALOR SETAR: A 43-year-old man, who was previously detained for allegedly assaulting his wife, is now under investigation for burying a foetus.

Kedah police chief Comm Datuk Adzli Abu Shah said it is believed that the man’s 39-year-old wife was 12 weeks’ pregnant when she was allegedly assaulted by him, resulting in a miscarriage.

“The police, accompanied by a forensic team, escorted the suspect and his wife to the Masjid Al-Gufran Islamic Cemetery,” he said during a press conference here yesterday.

He said that the duo indicated where the foetus was said to have been buried before the forensic team carried out an exhumation.

The team only found some dried-up remains but could not determine their nature, he added.

Comm Adzli said a sample of the remains was sent to the Chemistry Department for analysis.

“If confirmed (it is human remains), we will open an investigation under Section 318 of the Penal Code for concealing a birth,” he said.

The traumatised woman was treated at Hospital Sultan Abdul Halim for a fractured arm and fingers, as well as bruising on her face and abdominal trauma.

She claimed she was beaten by the man with various objects, including clothes hanger, rubber hose, curtain rod and broom handle.

Comm Adzli urged others who may have been victimised by the suspect to come forward.

On April 28, police arrested the suspect at a homestay in Alor Setar.
