Mother, teen daughter killed in Kota Tinggi crash


KOTA TINGGI: A mother and her teenage daughter were killed in a two-vehicle accident at KM71 of Jalan Johor Baru–Mersing here on Friday (May 1).

Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Yusof Othman said police received a report on the fatal crash at about 5.15pm.

He said the accident involved a Proton Persona driven by a 56-year-old local man, with two passengers aged 51 and 14, and a Perodua Bezza driven by a 27-year-old local man.

“The two passengers of the Proton Persona, believed to be a mother and her daughter, suffered severe head injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene by a medical officer,” he said here on Saturday (May 2).

Supt Yusof added that the driver of the Persona sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the intensive care unit of Sultan Ismail Hospital in Johor Baru for further treatment.

“The driver of the Bezza did not suffer any injuries,” he said.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Those with information about the incident are urged to contact the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division at the Kota Tinggi district police headquarters to assist with the investigation.

Supt Yusof also reminded road users to remain vigilant and adhere to traffic laws and regulations to ensure road safety.
