Boost for competition fairness as nine join tribunal

PUTRAJAYA: The appointment of nine new members to the Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT) is set to enhance the integrity and efficiency of Malaysia’s competition justice system, ensuring fair and transparent handling of all appeals to the Malaysia Competition Commission (MyCC).

Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali (pic) said eight members have been newly appointed to the panel while one has been reappointed, with all appointments receiving the approval of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“I am confident that all CAT members will be able to carry out their responsibilities fairly and without fear or favour.

“I would also like to extend my best wishes to them, and may the tribunal continue to uphold its credibility as an important institution in the country’s competition landscape,” he said in a statement, Bernama reported.

Armizan said that since the CAT was established under the Competition Act 2010 (Act 712), a total of 57 cases have been filed with the tribunal, of which 48 have been successfully resolved, while nine are still in the hearing process.

“For your information, on Feb 11, 2026, the CAT delivered its ruling on the chicken feed cartel case, with the hearing panel upholding the MyCC’s decision. This is the case with the highest penalty ever recorded by the CAT to date, amounting to RM415.5mil,” he said.
