Cops hunting bus driver who obstructed ambulance

KOTA TINGGI: Police are tracking down an express bus driver following a viral video showing an ambulance being obstructed while on emergency duty.

Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Yusof Othman said the district traffic investigation and enforcement division detected the 35-second video uploaded on Instagram at about 12.30pm on Monday (April 27).

“The video showed a bus obstructing the path of an ambulance that was responding to an emergency,” he said.

Supt Yusof added that police identified the incident as having taken place along Jalan Johor Baru-Mersing from the Pulada camp, heading towards Kota Tinggi town.

He said investigations are being conducted under Rule 9(2) of the Road Traffic Rules 1959, which covers offences involving failure to give way to emergency vehicles such as ambulances, fire engines, police and Customs vehicles.

Members of the public with information on the incident are urged to come forward to assist in identifying the driver involved. Those with information can contact traffic enforcement officer Insp Amirul Mustakim Mustaza at 017-479 3329.

Supt Yusof also reminded motorists to remain alert and comply with road regulations at all times.

He said giving way to emergency vehicles was crucial to ensure the safety of all road users.

“Delays caused by motorists who fail to move aside can affect emergency response time and put lives at risk,” he said.

Supt Yusof added that road users should always act responsibly when they hear or see emergency vehicles approaching and advised the public to be more aware of traffic laws to help maintain safety on the roads.
