Tractor driver drowns after vehicle overturns into pond

KUANTAN: A tractor driver died after the vehicle he was operating lost control and overturned into a pond at a palm oil mill in Kampung Tersang, Raub, on Saturday (April 26).

Raub OCPD Supt Mohd Shahril Abdul Rahman said police received information on the incident at 10pm, involving Mohamad Syariffudin Jemain, 37.

"Preliminary investigations found that the accident occurred while the victim was reversing when the machinery lost control before overturning into a nearby pond.

"As a result, the victim is believed to have been trapped and drowned before being pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel," he said in a statement.

He said a post-mortem would be conducted at Hospital Raub on Sunday, and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Meanwhile, Pahang Fire and Rescue Department operations and rescue assistant director Mohd Salahuddin Isa said they arrived at the scene at about 9.38pm but the victim had already been removed by factory workers and was handed over to the police. - Bernama
