Cops record statement over defamatory remarks against MAIS

SHAH ALAM: Police have recorded the statement of an individual linked to alleged defamatory remarks against the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS).

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Shazeli Kahar said investigations into the case have been completed, with the investigation papers referred to the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) for further instructions.

“No arrest has been made so far as we are still awaiting further instructions from the Attorney General’s Chambers.

“We urge the public to be patient while waiting for a decision,” he told reporters at a police community programme during the 219th Police Day celebration here on Sunday (April 26).

He said the individual involved had been called in and his statement recorded to assist in the investigation, adding that the person is believed to be linked to a non-governmental organisation (NGO).

Previously, police confirmed receiving a report of alleged defamatory content against MAIS that had gone viral on social media.

The case involves a video said to contain defamatory elements, including allegations of corruption and the misuse of royal immunity, which were believed to have been made to tarnish the image of Mais and the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS).

The report was lodged following the circulation of a video on TikTok by an account known as “Ridzuan Ikhlas” via the IPK.TV platform.

The case is being investigated under Section 500 and Section 504 of the Penal Code, as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
