Govt mulling cut to road tax for diesel vehicles, says PM


NIBONG TEBAL: The Federal Government is considering reducing road tax for diesel-powered vehicles to ease the burden of rising global fuel prices.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (pic) said the matter had been discussed with Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook and the Transport Ministry is working on the details of the mechanism and its implementation.

'I have asked the minister and the ministry's secretary-general to work and find ways we can do it in the near future,' he said in his speech during JPJ's 80th anniversary at Batu Kawan on Saturday (Apr 25).

There are about 1.8 million diesel-powered vehicles nationwide, including private cars.
