Four arrested, drugs worth RM1.8mil seized in raid on JB apartment

JOHOR BARU: Police have crippled a drug syndicate operating out of a gated apartment, arresting its leader and his girlfriend and seizing narcotics worth RM1.8mil.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said police detained the couple, along with two suspected syndicate members, in a raid at about 12.30am on Monday (April 20).

"The 24-year-old ringleader and his 21-year-old girlfriend were arrested along with two others who rented the unit in Mutiara Indah here.

"We uncovered a variety of drugs, including more than 11.6kg of MDMA, ecstasy powder, ketamine and syabu, and 1,796 Erimin 5 pills, along with repackaging equipment," he said at a press conference at state police headquarters here on Friday (April 24).

The arrest led police to check a vehicle parked within the residence, where they found more drugs, believed to be ketamine.

Comm Rahaman added that the syndicate, believed to have been active since January, used the guarded residential unit as a storage and repackaging centre before distributing the drugs to the local market.

"Urine tests on all four suspects came back positive for drugs, and the main suspect possessed two previous drug offences on his record," he said.

All four suspects have been remanded for seven days until Sunday (April 26) to aid in investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
