MAHB to deploy additional personnel after baggage handling issue, says Fahmi

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) will deploy additional personnel at critical areas following a recent baggage handling system (BHS) disruption at KL International Airport Terminal 1, said government spokesman Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

Fahmi also said MAHB would be required to table a weekly progress report to the Transport Minister, who would then bring the proposal to the Cabinet.

According to Fahmi, Transport Minister Anthony Loke briefed the Cabinet in its weekly meeting on Wednesday (April 22) about the incident at KLIA1 last Saturday.

“The Transport Minister informed us that disruptions lasted for about five hours before operations were successfully restored at 10.30pm.

“MAHB will implement a few immediate measures, including increasing the number of officers in arrivals and other critical areas.

“They will also table weekly meetings to the Transport Minister, who will then inform the Cabinet,” said Fahmi in his weekly press conference.

In a statement on Monday (April 20), the Transport Ministry said the root cause of the incident was the 132kV gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) reserve at the Bukit Raja substation tripped, resulting in a voltage dip that affected KLIA operations.
