Update tax details regularly, don't just wait for e-filing, LHDN reminds taxpayers

KUALA LUMPUR: Taxpayers are urged to be more proactive in updating their tax information regularly, instead of waiting for the e-Filing season.

Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) senior revenue executive I (collection department) Azaharuddin Mohd Ali said awareness of tax responsibilities often rises only during the filing period.

"Many will only log into MyTax or the hasil.gov.my portal when submitting their returns, but regular checks are important to keep details such as income, reliefs and tax status accurate and up to date.

"Tax compliance goes beyond payment. It includes reporting income honestly, keeping proper financial records and understanding eligible reliefs," he said when appearing as a guest on Bernama Radio's 'Klinik Cukai' programme Tuesday (April 21).

He warned that failure to meet tax obligations may lead to enforcement action, and encouraged the public to use digital platforms like MyTax to manage their affairs more easily.

"The platform not only simplifies e-Filing, but also allows users to review information, update profiles and receive notifications quickly," he said.

He added that tax revenue is vital for funding national development, including infrastructure, education and healthcare, for the benefit of the people. - Bernama
