Express bus driver seen in viral video admits he was on drugs, say cops


ALOR GAJAH: The driver of an express bus has admitted he was under the influence of drugs while in control the vehicle, which was seen being driven in a dangerous manner in a viral video.

Alor Gajah OCPD Supt Ahmad Abu Bakar said the 53-year-old man admitted to this during questioning at police headquarters.

He said the incident occurred along the North-South Expressway (southbound) here at about 3.50am on April 15 while the bus was travelling from Ipoh to Johor Baru with 13 passengers on board.

"The suspect went into hiding but surrendered at 12.10pm on Monday (April 20)," he said.

Supt Ahmad said a drug test on the suspect was positive for methamphetamine.

"The suspect admitted he took syabu before starting the journey," he said.

He added that the suspect would be remanded at the Alor Gajah Magistrate's Court on Tuesday (April 21) to facilitate further investigations under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
