Suitability of building residential schools must be discussed at district level, Perak assembly told

IPOH: Building any type of fully residential school must first be discussed at district level to assess suitability, says Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

He said that any development proposal, including building schools or Mara Junior Science Colleges (MRSM), must go through the relevant district action committee chaired by the respective district officer.

He said discussions are crucial to determine actual needs and identify suitable locations for such projects.

"I would like to remind that these matters must be discussed at the district level. The district action committee should lead development planning for each district," he said during the state assembly sitting on Friday (April 17).

Razman Zakaria (PN-Gunung Semanggol) had asked if there were plans to establish an MRSM in the Kerian district.

"The views raised by Gunung Semanggol should be taken into account as a way to stimulate development in the area," Saarani added.

He said that apart from planning, land availability is a key factor in determining whether or not a development project can proceed.

"It is easier if the land belongs to the state government, but if it does not, acquisition is required and the cost will be significantly higher," he said.
