RM9.7mil in gold stolen in armed daylight heist


KUALA LUMPUR: Four armed men made off with an estimated RM9.7mil worth of gold in a ­brazen daylight robbery at a goldsmith along Jalan Tun Sambanthan.

City police chief Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus said police received information on the gold heist at about 11am yesterday.

“Four unidentified men stormed into the premises armed with two pistols to carry out the heist.

“They were believed to have escaped with 21 trays of gold, weighing about 15kg.

“In addition, the armed robbers also seized a shotgun and a round of ammunition, belonging to the security guard on duty,” he said in a statement.

Comm Fadil said the case would be investigated under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for armed gang robbery.

He said a big manhunt has been launched to track down the gang.
