Dialysis patient admits to sexual assault

SEREMBAN: A 59-year-old dialysis patient pleaded guilty in the Sessions Court here to a charge of committing physical sexual assault on a 15-year-old female patient at a government hospital.

Zulkefli Abdul Rani did not contest the charge after it was read to him before Judge Mohamad Kamil Nizam.

The accused was charged with committing the offence around 4pm on Jan 30 at the green zone of Hospital Tuanku Ampuan Najihah in Kuala Pilah.

Zulkefli was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

Offenders can be jailed for up to 20 years and whipped upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Balkis Zunaidi then asked the court for another date for sentencing.

She said the prosecution was offering the accused bail of RM7,000 with one surety.

The accused, who was brought in to court in a wheelchair, pleaded for a lower amount.

He also told the court he had to undergo dialysis regularly and had recently suffered a broken leg.

Judge Mohamad Kamil then set bail at RM5,500 with one surety.

He also ordered the accused to surrender his passport to the court and to stay away from the victim.

The court then fixed April 20 for sentencing.
