Manhunt for alleged predator after jailbreak


KUALA LUMPUR: A Pakistani man facing charges over sexual offences against children has escaped from Sungai Buloh Prison, triggering a police manhunt and raising concerns over public safety.

The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Muhammad Hassan, is believed to have fled while under remand, prompting immediate efforts by police to locate him.

Sungai Buloh OCPD Supt Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor said the suspect is facing charges under Section 377C and Section 392 of the Penal Code as well as Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

“He is also facing two charges under Section 14(a) of the same Act and one charge under Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Supt Mohd Hafiz said the suspect was last seen in an orange T-shirt and long black trousers.

He said police immediately intensified search efforts upon receiving the report, including sweeping nearby areas and expanding operations to trace the suspect’s movements.

“This detainee has a history of sexual offences against children. The public is advised to remain vigilant,” Supt Mohd Hafiz said.

He also advised the public against spreading unverified information or speculation.
