Three foreigners nabbed, nearly RM1mil duty-unpaid liquor seized in Pekan Nenas raid

PONTIAN: Three Myanmar men have been arrested by the police after more than 9,000 bottles of contraband alcohol were found in their possession.

General Operations Force (GOF) Battalion 5 commanding officer Supt Salehin Suleiman said the suspects, aged 24 to 33 years old, were arrested in a two-storey house in Taman Utama Pekan Nanas here around 12pm on Saturday (April 4).

“The house was rented for the sole purpose of storing the contraband alcohol before they are distributed to customers in various locations in Pontian.

“During the raid, we found 9,102 bottles of alcohol of different brands and sizes stashed in 451 carton boxes,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (April 8).

The force also seized a vehicle during the raid, bringing the total seizure value to about RM952,000, he added.

Supt Salehin said continuous efforts would be conducted to bust contraband activities and illegal entry and exit of immigrants in the district.

He urged the public to channel related information to the GOF intelligence office via hotline 07-755 7280.
