KUALA LUMPUR: The contributions and service of the late Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik, former transport minister and MCA Honorary Life President, will always be remembered, says Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

Fahmi, who grew up in Bukit Damansara near Dr Ling’s family home, described the late leader as a man who had given much to the nation.

“Dr Ling was an extraordinary figure who served the country with distinction. His legacy, work and service will always be remembered,” he said after paying his last respects at Dr Ling’s wake at the Xiao En Centre here on Monday (April 6).

He added that he had a close relationship with Dr Ling’s family, particularly his son Ling Hee Keat.

“They were true friends, and I was especially close to Keat. I hope Toh Puan Ong Ee Nah and the family find strength and patience in facing this significant loss,” Fahmi said.

Dr Ling, who passed away last Saturday at the age of 82, is survived by his wife Toh Puan Ong Ee Nah and two sons, Hee Leong and Hee Keat.

The former MCA president was one of the longest-serving Cabinet members, heading the Transport Ministry for 17 years from 1986 until his retirement in 2003.
