Jafry confirms Abdul Rahman’s resignation as Tuaran Umno chief

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Umno chairman Datuk Jafry Ariffin has confirmed that Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan has resigned as Tuaran Umno division chief, effective April 1.

Jafry said Abdul Rahman remains an Umno member and continues to serve on the Umno supreme council.

In a Facebook post on Saturday (April 4), Abdul Rahman wrote that every role in an organisation has its time and that his time had come to an end. He did not directly mention his resignation as Tuaran Umno chief in the post.

He said he had been given the chance to serve, learn and lead, and that leadership includes knowing when to step down with dignity.

It is understood that Tuaran Umno’s deputy chief, Noorbaki Lamsari, has taken over as division chairman.

Abdul Rahman became Tuaran Umno chief after Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor left Umno in December 2018. He previously served as Sabah Umno deputy chairman under the late Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.

Jafry has since taken over as Sabah Umno chairman, while Penampang Umno chief Datuk Hasnol Ayub Aman became the state’s deputy chairman following Bung Moktar’s death in December.

In the November 2025 state election, Barisan Nasional named Abdul Rahman as its candidate for the Tempasuk state seat in Kota Belud. He declined the nomination a few hours later, surprising the party.
