PORT KLANG: The Port Klang Joint Task Force (JTF) on e-waste has seized 314.3 tonnes of electronic and scheduled waste after inspecting 16 containers in a joint operation here.
Of the total, 11 containers were found to contain e-waste weighing 263.1 tonnes, while two others held scheduled waste under category SW422 weighing 51.2 tonnes.
Port Klang Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) deputy commander Wan Fazli Wan Hamat said the inspection was carried out under Ops Green Shield 19 to ensure compliance with regulations.
"The inspection was conducted to ensure that the contents of the containers complied with regulations and did not involve prohibited materials," he said in a statement on Friday (April 3).
The JTF, led by AKPS, carried out the operation with the cooperation of the Royal Malaysian Customs Department, the Environment Department, Sirim and the Port Klang Authority.
A total of 18 personnel from the agencies were involved in the operation, which ran from 9.30am to 12.30pm.
Wan Fazli said AKPS would continue inspecting containers suspected of carrying prohibited e-waste.
This comes following the enforcement of a total ban on e-waste imports from April 1 under the Customs (Prohibition of Imports) (Amendment) (No. 3) Order 2026.
He added that enforcement at the country’s entry points would be strengthened to safeguard national interests and sovereignty.
