IPOH: Malaysians should stand united and reject any form of racial discord, especially in times of crisis, says the Housing and Local Government Minister.
Nga Kor Ming said unity, harmony and mutual respect remain the foundation of the nation’s strength.
He said that with the current global predicament, it is important for Malaysians to have resolve and stand united to overcome the crisis together.
Nga advised the people to act responsibly, exercise restraint and refrain from amplifying negative sentiments that could undermine national unity and national development.
“Despite the fact that some neighbouring countries have declared an energy emergency, Malaysians still enjoy some of the lowest petrol prices in the world.
“The government is implementing various proactive initiatives to manage the situation. Malaysia’s unity in diversity is our greatest asset.
“We must not allow irresponsible narratives to erode the trust and understanding that generations of Malaysians have worked hard to build,” he said in his address at the Perak DAP’s Hari Raya dinner event with the Perak media on Sunday.
Nga reiterated that every Malaysian has an important role to play in preserving harmony and safeguarding the country’s unique diversity.
Unity, he added, is a shared responsibility that must be upheld by all Malaysians to safeguard the nation’s peace, stability and future.
“One nation, one vision and one dream, we shall overcome. One must realise that without shared responsibility, there is no shared prosperity,” he said.
Nga, who is Perak DAP chairman, also said the state is on the right track under the unity government, with Perak recording a surplus budget for four consecutive years.
It recorded the highest investment of RM15.67bil, with tourism also performing well with Visit Perak Year 2025, attracting over 10.1 million domestic and foreign tourists, he added.
