Senior citizen injured after car catches fire


PETALING JAYA: An 84-year-old woman was injured after the car she was in caught fire following a road accident at Persiaran Bandar Utama, Taman BU2, on Sunday (March 29).

Assistant director (Operations) of the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said the department received an emergency call at 3.35pm.

“A fire engine from the Damansara fire station was dispatched to the scene, located about 5km away, and arrived within five minutes.

“The vehicle was about 95% destroyed in the fire. The victim, believed to be the vehicle owner, sustained a fractured right arm but was conscious,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (March 31).

The victim was rescued by members of the public before the arrival of the Fire and Rescue Department, and the fire was brought under control at 4.20pm.

She was later handed over to Health Ministry personnel and taken to Hospital Sungai Buloh for further treatment.

A total of eight personnel were involved in the operation, assisted by a fire rescue tender (FRT) and an emergency medical rescue services (EMRS) unit.
