Johor authorities foils diesel smuggling attempt, lorry with hidden tanks seized

JOHOR BARU: The Johor branch of the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry has foiled an attempt to smuggle diesel with the detention of a driver and a lorry that had been modified with additional tanks.

State director Lilis Saslinda Pornomo said the driver, in his 40s, was detained during an operation at a petrol station in Pasir Gudang at about 2pm on Monday (March 30).

“Checks showed that two pumps had been installed to siphon the diesel from the vehicle’s main tank into other modified tanks,” she said in a statement on Tuesday (March 31).

Lilis said the modified tanks could store up to 800 litres of diesel.

“The driver was detained for questioning as he was unable to produce any documents, and investigations are being carried out under the Control of Supplies Act 1961,” she said, adding that the total value of the seizure was about RM20,716.

She urged the public to report information or lodge complaints via WhatsApp at 019-848 8000, the KPDN e-Complaint portal (e-aduan@kpdn.gov.my), the 1-800-886-800 hotline, or the Ez ADU KPDN app.
